Moved by the plight of these vulnerable creatures, the father and son quickly sprang into action, deciding to rescue the puppies from the freezing cold. They brought the puppies home, determined to provide the care and warmth needed to nurse them back to health. This act of kindness likely saved the puppies’ lives, offering them a chance at a new beginning in a loving home. When the father and son arrived home with the puppies, the man’s wife was initially puzzled by their unexpected arrival. The man recounted the harrowing discovery of the puppies left alone in the freezing snow, shivering and in dire need of rescue. Moved by the story, the wife agreed that they should keep the puppies and help them recover. 

Together, the couple quickly set up a warm, makeshift bed using a cardboard box and lined it with soft blankets to provide the puppies with much-needed warmth and comfort. They also offered the puppies a bowl of goat milk, which the little ones eagerly lapped up, gradually beginning to warm up. 

As the puppies drank and nestled into their new cozy environment, their spirits visibly lifted, comforted by the safety and warmth of their new home. This gesture of compassion gave the puppies a new lease on life, filling the couple’s home with newfound hope and love. As the days passed, the rescued puppies, now named Yushan and Yuxi, began to settle into their new surroundings. They explored every corner of their new home and engaged in playful antics, including a fascination with their owners’ shoes, which they playfully climbed on and chewed. The names Yushan and Yuxi, chosen by the wife, seemed to fit the puppies well as they adapted to their new environment. 

On their third day in the home, Yuxi displayed a surprising and adorable skill: she spontaneously gave high fives, delighting her new family with her intelligence and charm without any prior training. This endearing trait amazed her owners, showcasing her cleverness at a tender age. 

By the fourth day, the couple decided it was time for a professional health assessment and took Yushan and Yuxi to the vet for a thorough check-up. There, the puppies were tested for canine distemper and parvovirus—common and serious health concerns for dogs. 

Fortunately, both tests came back negative, relieving the couple and confirming that the puppies were healthy. This vet visit was a crucial step in ensuring that Yushan and Yuxi were on the right track to a healthy, joyful life with their new family. Yushan and Yuxi, the two stray puppies, indeed found their stroke of luck when they were rescued by a caring family that now cherishes them as treasured members of their household. Once facing a grim and uncertain future, their lives have been transformed by the kindness and compassion of those who found them shivering in the snow.

Fatou was born in the wild in West Africa in 1957, before being transported to France two years later. She was then acquired by the Berlin Zoo, where she has spent most of her historically long life. Fatou claimed the record in 2019, after the death of Trudy, who lived at the Little Rock Zoo, in 2019. 

Following the death of the Louisville Zoo’s elder gorilla Helen in 2022, Fatou is the only living gorilla born in the 1950s. 

According to AP, she officially celebrated her 67th birthday on Saturday, where she was treated with a tasty treat basket of fruits and vegetables:

  The treats become a tradition for Fatou’s birthday. According to a press release from last year, gorillas only eat fruit on rare, special occasions like this and usually limit their sugar intake.

For the Berlin zookeepers, this birthday is extra significant: not only is Fatou the oldest gorilla in the world, she’s also now the oldest animal at the zoo, following the death of 75-year-old Ingo the flamingo earlier this year, per AP. 

In her old age, Fatou reportedly likes to keep things low-key: she has her own enclosure and likes to keep distance from the other gorillas, as their “antics” would be “too much for the frail old lady.” “Fatou is free to contact her neighbours at any time if she would like to, but instead she purposefully seeks solitude and stays away from the other gorillas,” Gralki said. While Fatou isn’t much for socializing, the staff keeps an eye on her to make sure she is happy and active.

After five months of waiting, despite his friendly and lovable nature, Kano was still without a forever home. Due to space constraints at the DeKalb County shelter, Kano was moved to LifeLine Animal Project’s adoption center in Atlanta, a decision that would serendipitously lead him back to his original family. LifeLine Animal Project shared the joyful news on their Facebook page, announcing, “Kano, formerly known as Skillet to his shelter family, has found his way home! He found the best outcome; being reunited with his family!” 

This reunion came about when Kano’s “grandmother,” the mother of his previous owner, discovered his photo on the shelter’s website after feeling compelled to search for their lost pet. The woman recounted that her son had raised Kano in the Blue Ridge Mountains from puppyhood, describing him as the most loving dog. 

However, when her son enlisted in the Army, family circumstances forced her to rehome Kano, but then he went missing. “But not long after, I just had an intuitive sense that I needed to look for him,” she shared with LifeLine Animal Project. Following her intuition led her to LifeLine’s website, where she joyously found Kano and quickly made arrangements to visit him. Kano knew instantly that this woman was his family and whipped his head around when she called him by his real name. It brought tears of joy to the volunteers’ eyes. Everyone celebrated Kano and his grandma’s reunion. The woman expressed her deep connection with Kano, regretting their separation but hoping he understands her love. 

“I knew in my soul he needed me; it’s like he was calling me somehow. I know that sounds crazy. I tell him every day I’m sorry I was doing the best I could do at the time and I love him so much! I still feel the guilt, but I hope he knows and feels my love for him,” she explained in LifeLine Animal Project’s Facebook post. With a happy resolution, the woman had recently acquired a house with a fenced backyard for Kano to enjoy. 

Although her son, about to be deployed, hasn’t seen Kano in person again, their FaceTime interactions are filled with happiness. Kano’s journey demonstrates how, sometimes, the road to the right destination involves traversing many paths.

  She had been at the shelter for a while and everyone seemed to pass her by, that’s when she came up with a unique way of getting noticed. She smiles at everyone she sees in the shelter, hoping someone will want to adopt her and give her a forever home. Nala’s story began when a kind person from the Netherlands came across her all alone when she was very pregnant. In fact, she was already in labor and was having difficulty giving birth. 

Thankfully, she was rushed to a veterinary hospital, where she had an emergency c-section. She gave birth to two kittens, but sadly, only one of them survived. Nala and her one remaining kitten were taken in by Dierenbescherming, an animal protection group in the Netherlands, in the hope that they could get a chance at a better life. 

The kitten was strong and healthy and soon found his forever home. Nala also blossomed and loved being around people in this safe environment. The reason Nala has a permanent smile is because she has a cleft lip. She also needs a special diet because of a skin condition. “She gets hypo-allergenic food and is doing much better. She might always need this special food,” explained a volunteer at the shelter. She gets very excited when she sees somebody new at the shelter. When they pass by her condo she gives them lots of attention by standing up against the glass window with that big grin on her face. If you sit with her she will rub up against you and treat you like a friend. “The perfect home for her would be a house with a fenced garden, with humans who are at home a lot and who don’t have a problem with her special diet,” said the volunteer. 

“She is okay being placed with other cats, but will need individual feeding.” Nala is still waiting to find her forever home. But meanwhile, she continues to give her radiant smile to everyone that comes to visit, let’s hope she doesn’t have to wait too long.

The deer, which he said looks like a buck that has shed its antlers, has not strayed from his post. "When someone approached the bird with a net, the deer puts itself between him and the bird, and he's repeated that behavior for some time," 

Typically positioning himself broadside to any car or passerby who comes near the nest, the deer stares intently until the potential aggressor moves on, he said. The gestation period for a Canada goose is up to 31 days, Thomas said, with the nesting season only just beginning. 

While normally both the male and female share the task of keeping the eggs warm, the expectant mother at Forest Lawn appears not to have that luxury.

“The dark circle near the top of the atmospherically-reddened Sun is the Moon—but so is the dark peak just below it,” explains NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day. “This is because along the way, the Earth's atmosphere had an inversion layer of unusually warm air which acted like a gigantic lens and created a second image.” Chasiotis' positioning was no accident. He purposely placed himself in Al Wakrah because he knew that the eclipse would begin at sunrise and he was hoping that the position over the water would cause a mirage. 

This particular atmospheric optical phenomenon—when occurring during a normal sunrise—is called the Etruscan Vase effect. Great science fiction writer Jules Verne actually named the optical illusion after the shape that it makes. For Chasiotis, while he was disappointed not to be able to see the full annular solar eclipse—where the moon covers the sun completely, leaving only a ring of fire visible—he's more than satisfied by what he captured that day. 

“The feeling during the eclipse was out of this world,” he shares with My Modern Met. “The crescent sun rose in a deep red color that reminded me of burning coal. At first, two horns were visible rising from the sea, which soon took the shape of a crescent. The distortions visible made it look even more idyllic! 

An annular eclipse followed, which is called ‘the ring of fire,' because the moon is not close enough to the Earth to block all of the sun. Unfortunately, clouds blocked my view and I missed the annular phase. When the eclipsed sun reappeared through the clouds it was a crescent again. Despite missing the main event, I was so rewarded by the sunrise itself that I didn't feel sorry at all.” Amateur astronomer Elias Chasiotis was there to capture it as the mirage faded and the sun rose as a partially, covered crescent.

  According to the police department’s Facebook post, Officer Travis Frost approached the pit bull sitting on someone’s porch. He left his car door open just in case the dog might try to attack, but that’s when the pit mix made himself at home! A monster this dog was not! Officer Frost had to snap some pictures of the pit bull relaxing in his car. The best part of the whole situation: after the precious photo shoot, the police were able to reunite the sweet dog with his owner thanks to his microchip. Gold is back where he belongs, safe and sound! 🙂 The moral of the story? “Pit bulls have a bit of a bad reputation. While you should always be careful around any dog that you don’t know, you shouldn’t automatically assume that all pit bulls are bad dogs. 

They might be really loving like this guy was this morning,” Officer Frost said. We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. 🙂

Unaware of the deep connection between the two, the staff housed them in adjacent but separate kennels. Brenda was not pleased with being separated from her companion. Defying expectations, she managed to jump over a five-foot cement barrier to reunite with Linda. 

The shelter staff were puzzled the next morning to find Brenda in Linda’s kennel until they reviewed the security footage and discovered Brenda’s daring escape. Danielle Joerge, MACC’s supervisor, shared how touched they were by Brenda’s actions, emphasizing their commitment to keeping the friends together. 

Responding to this touching display, the shelter arranged for them to share a larger kennel. The story once shared publicly, touched hearts across the country, attracting widespread attention and a flurry of adoption offers, specifically from those willing to adopt them as a pair to ensure they remained together. 

Kathy Walker and her husband, grieving the loss of their own dog Sampson and not initially considering another pet, were moved by Brenda and Linda’s story. After meeting the pair, they quickly decided to adopt them, providing a loving and permanent home. Now, Brenda and Linda relish their days with their new parents, grateful for the chance to stay side by side in a home where they can fully express their joy and companionship. Their journey from the streets to a forever home exemplifies the profound bond dogs can share and the compassionate response they can inspire in humans.

  When Gary, a delivery driver in Ireland, was on his rounds, he heard desperate meows coming from a dumpster. It didn't take long for Gary to realize that the little kitty's head was completely stuck in the drainage hole. Nearby was a skilled engineer with the necessary tools so he was quickly summoned to the scene. Together, they embarked on a delicate and thoughtful rescue mission. With great care, the engineer skilfully cut around the dumpster to free the trapped kitten. However, the ordeal wasn't over as a piece of plastic was stuck fast around the kitten's neck. 

Cradling the frightened feline gently, he employed another tool to painstakingly and precisely remove the remaining obstruction. At last, the kitten was liberated! Upon her release, the kitten darted away, likely in search of her mother, who was probably close by. Gary says, "There is an abundance of stray cats living in areas like this. So I always try to give them some extra food." 

He's a total hero in my books! This rescue serves as a heartwarming testament to the power of individuals coming together to aid an animal in distress. A bystander expressed their gratitude, stating, "Thanks to the gentlemen who took the time to work together to help this kitten and to the engineer who took the time to use his skills to free the kitty. You’ve all shown such kindness and ingenuity to save a life. Bravo!"

Despite the adversity Avenue faced, his demeanor was nothing short of remarkable. He exhibited a sweet, gentle nature, and his eyes conveyed a deep sense of trust towards those around him. This resilience and capacity for love, even after experiencing hardship, touched the hearts of the rescue staff. Avenue’s trusting nature underscored the innate goodness in animals, even in the face of neglect, and motivated the rescue team to dedicate themselves fully to his recovery. 

The journey ahead would require patience, specialized care, and a lot of love, but Avenue’s spirit promised a beacon of hope for a brighter, healthier future. Determined to help Avenue regain his strength, the rescue staff fed him every three to four hours, even in the middle of the night. As his health improved, his goofy personality started to emerge. The staff celebrated even the smallest milestones like the first time he went outside to run. 

Avenue quickly learned commands and manners. Everyone was delighted with each new thing he was able to do. When Avenue reached a healthy weight and was cleared by the vet, the only thing left to do before adoption was to show him how great life could be. Avenue was taken on a field trip, with the first stop being a local pet store. He had a blast picking out his own toys and even placed them on the register counter himself. 

The next stop was his first ice cream, which he devoured once he got a taste. Avenue had many new experiences on his day out and returned to the rescue with a big smile on his adorable face. Finally, the day came for Avenue to go to his forever home. Loading him into the car was a bittersweet moment for the staff, but they knew he was going to live the life he deserved. 

Avenue’s journey from a malnourished, weak puppy to a strong, happy dog is a testament to the dedication of animal rescues who help pets in need.

  There was a ginger and two tabbies and they were all in need of food and some care and attention. Zoo policy states that no domestic animals can be kept at the zoo. The staff wondered what could they do about this tricky situation. Then they had an idea, and decided to give the kittens a new mother, their resident Lynx. Lynx had been a foster mother before and although she is a wildcat, she can be very affectionate when it comes to looking after kittens. As soon as she saw the kittens, she immediately rubbed her body on them. This was her way of marking them with the scent. Her maternal instincts had kicked in and she began to look after the kittens like they were own. It didn’t take long for the zoo to find owners for this adorable trio and once old enough they will be adopted into their forever homes.
